We are so excited for the bands that will be performing in our Oak Garden this weekend! Check out the schedule below and come out for icy cold beers and chilly margaritas.
The garden opens and the music kicks off at 6:30pm on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights. Sundays from 3-6pm.
It’s hard to sum up all that there is to see and do in Austin, but we think the recent Travel Squire article did it pretty nicely! We want to thank them for mentioning us under places to eat and drink! Click here to check out the full article. Here is the clip on Guero’s:
“Guero’s: An Austin establishment on South Congress that dishes excellent, reasonably priced Mexican food. Good for lunch or dinner, but can get crowded at peak times. Try the tacos al pastor. 1412 South Congress Ave., 512-447-7688, www.guerostacobar.com”
We are so happy when our customers are happy! Check out the newly engaged couple, Heather & Joe who made a stop at Guero’s Taco Bar to grab a beer and snap a few engagement photos by Magan Blasig! ¡Felicidades y’all!
Austin has its fair share of Mexican restaurants and it can be hard to figure out which are truly authentic Mexican eateries. In order to save you from all the imitation Mexican food out there, we put Guero’s, the South Congress favorite, to the test and compiled a checklist of what to look for the next time you’re craving the flavors of a true Mexican cantina.
Corn Tortillas are probably the single most important component for a Mexican restaurant and can make or break an entire restaurant’s menu. Nobody knows that better than Guero’s who would never settle for prepackaged and shipped corn tortillas. Instead, each corn tortilla is made by hand in the restaurant daily. If they don’t melt in your mouth immediately, then they weren’t made by your abuela or by the Guero’s staff.
Margarita’s are another one of Mexico’s greatest contributions to the drink menu. Always check out a restaurant’s bar menu before committing to a location and if they don’t offer their own signature mix of juices and top-shelf tequilas, just keep walking. Guero’s offers a full line of signature and traditional blends always made with fresh squeezed limejuice.
Dessert may be left for last, but they are still just as important as any other dining components at a Mexican café. While there’s a place for cheesecake and cookies, they don’t belong on this list. When asking for dessert at a Mexican restaurant, you should expect sponge cake that’s been soaked in three different milks otherwise known as tres leches and caramel covered sweet custard better known as flan. These two delicacies are of course always made homemade at Guero’s and are often hard to skip even after the biggest taco plate.
Live music is important to both the Mexican and Austin culture, so don’t go to a place without it. Luckily, Guero’s has live music Thursday through Sunday.
There you have it. Basically, if you don’t find each of these four criteria at an Austin Mexican restaurants, you know you’re not getting a truly authentic experience and you should probably just head over to Guero’s.
Celebrate Cinco de Mayo at Guero’s! Come and hang out with us in the garden on May 1 @ 7pm and enjoy Mayan dancers, warriors, and even a Mayan Princess!
The press is going wild about our outdoor stage being shut down the other night. Politicians like Mayor Pro-Tem Mike Martinez who pledged to help us obtain the necessary permits have decided instead to play politics with the issue. So allow us to clear the air!
Gary over at Austin City Permits has, in my opinion, the accurate story of how all this came to be. It’s almost good enough for a made for TV movie — almost.
It is no surprise that some of the best food in Austin is Mexican-inspired. But many of the restaurants in Austin serve what I’d call Tex-Fresh-Mex: fun and light ingredients, without all the lard and salt. And they’re BIG into tacos, maybe just a little obsessive if I may say so. Gueros takes top marks for great service, a fantastic menu, and terrific ambience at their venue on South Congress. Portions are a healthy size without being obscene. Try an Al Pastor taco which is topped with pork, cilanto, and pineapple: great for those warm sunny Austin days. And don’t forget the queso!
We would like to personally thank Andy for his kind words. We work very hard to give our customers the best experience possible.
Check out the Parade of Hot Rods on South Congress all day Saturday and Sunday! Well we had a great February and March!
Schoolboy’s and girl’s basketball finals, the rodeo, and our old pal SXSW. The Interactive and Film elements of the festival were bigger and funner than ever, and all the great parties on S. Congress during the music was real cool.
A special thanks to all the loyal employees who worked so hard to make it a great month.
Thanks to all of our Austin regulars who tolerated the masses of our out of town guests.
We get as star struck as the next guys, although we try to act Austin cool and not show it. In the last few weeks we’ve had a few pop in on us such as Mischa Barton, Quentin Tarantino, Adrian Grenier, Chloe Savigny and Sharon Jones just to name a few.
Here are just a few of the bands we were fortunate enough to have at Guero’s for SXSW 2010. We would like to thank all the artists and musicians who came out to play this year.
