Woman on a train

Güero´s Taco Bar has been a popular South Austin taqueria since 1986 when owners Rob & Cathy Lippincott opened a modest restaurant on East Oltorf Street. In the fall of 1994 they purchased the 100 year old Central Feed and Seed building on South Congress and began renovation. The project was completed in March of 1995 and Güero´s moved to its new home.

This friendly and now historic atmosphere sports decor and photos from the Mexican Revolution. And of course we have a traditional self-serve salsa bar. Güero´s also offers sidewalk dining, a bright and airy enclosed patio and a private garden where you can enjoy fresh, authentic Mexican dishes from the interior!

Chips and Salsa Buying only the freshest produce and meats, we have created some now legendary dishes. The caldo de pollo, a traditional chicken soup full of fresh vegetables, is said to have restorative qualities. The tacos al pastor are a famous treat from Mexico City. And oh-those corn tortillas! They are lovingly made fresh by hand. You can wrap one around thin air and have a meal fit for the gods.

Margarita Güero´s bar offers hand-shaken margaritas made in the original way with fresh-squeezed lime juice. ¡Muy peligroso! Just about any Mexican beer you name can be served up icy cold. Our bar will remind you of the great old cantinas you have visited in Mexico.

The staff at Güero´s is friendly, kind of eclectic and dedicated to Güero´s long term commitment to service. So sit back, enjoy and let us do what we do best. Thanks for coming by!
